Policy context

High levels of bed occupancy in mental health trusts is an important indicator of pressure in other parts of the system. The Royal College of Psychiatrists recommends a maximum bed occupancy of 85%.

Note: These data are based on the number of available and occupied beds open overnight that are under the care of consultants within mental health trusts.
