Spending on mental health services per person - Scotland

This chart shows how much is spent on mental health services per person (per capita) across Scotland or within a health board area. It is currently based on the actual amounts spent across the period from 2019/20 to 2023/24 inclusive and reported in 2023/24 prices. The figures can be examined from a national perspective, or at health board level. You can also compare data with up to four other areas.

Policy context

The Scottish Government has pledged to increase the share of NHS spending on mental health to 10% by the end of the current parliamentary term in spring 2026. We should expect to see spend per head increasing over the 2021 to 2026 period if this pledge is to be met.

Notes: We have standardised the figures to take account of different population sizes in the various health boards.
